Ari Pell is the sole reporter and editor of The Footnote. The publication exists because the 2025 DOJ Epstein Files Transparency Act release produced ≈1.38 million pages of court filings, depositions, flight logs, financial records, and email traffic — and most of it has never been systematically read.
The Footnote is not affiliated with any news organization, advocacy group, or political entity. It is funded independently. It does not accept advertising.
Source-tier discipline
Every claim carries a visible Tier 1, Tier 2, or Tier 3 weight. The tier is assigned by the quality of the source, not the importance of the claim.
Inline citation
Every document reference in the prose is a link. The reader can click through to the source at the point of reading.
Open questions
Every article ends with what the record does not show. The Footnote publishes its gaps.
No anonymous sources
The current body of work rests entirely on documents. When the publication adds source-based reporting, named sources will be the standard.
