About This Publication
What The Footnote Is
An independent investigative publication. One reporter, a defined corpus, source-tier discipline. The inaugural body of work is a primary-source audit of the 2025 DOJ Epstein Files Transparency Act release.
Every claim on the site carries a tier label. Every inline citation links to an indexed document in a public vault. The work is built to be auditable by any reader who cares to click through.
What The Footnote Is Not
It is not an opinion publication. It does not editorialize beyond what the documents support. It does not speculate. Where the record cannot answer a question, the question is published as open — not answered with inference.
It is not affiliated with any existing publication, institution, or advocacy group. It does not accept advertising, sponsorship, or editorial direction from outside parties.
The Reader
Someone who wants the record, not the performance. The audience overlap is ProPublica investigative subscribers, NYT Washington bureau readers, Bellingcat researchers — the kind of person who reads the methodology section before the article.
